How Lion's Mane Mushrooms Helped Me Regain My Memory and Dream Recall

There was a period in my life where I genuinely felt like I had lost pieces of myself. The best way I can describe it is that my brain felt foggy. During a time when I was recovering from a serious car accident where the airbag deployed, causing trauma to my head and neck, I was also navigating an atrocious relationship and experiencing what I can only describe as my own psychosis. I was trying to make sense of experiences that completely changed my perception of reality.

Somewhere along the way, I noticed my memory wasn't functioning the way it used to.

Simple things became difficult to recall. Conversations felt harder to retain. I would walk into a room and forget why I was there. Even things that once felt automatic suddenly required more effort.

I can't say with certainty whether it was the accident, the emotional stress, the psychosis, or a combination of everything happening at once. What I do know is that I didn't feel like myself. To this day, I still feel like I'm rebuilding parts of my memory. The good news is that it has gotten significantly better.

One of the things that motivated me to keep working on my brain health was remembering I was someone who dreamed every single night. Not only did I dream, but I could lucid dream. I had developed a level of awareness inside my dreams where I could recognize I was dreaming and actively participate in what was happening.

Then one day, it was like someone flipped a switch. I still had dreams, but I couldn't remember them…

I would wake up knowing that I had been somewhere all night, but the memories would disappear within seconds of opening my eyes. It was incredibly frustrating because dreaming had always been such an important part of my life. It felt like losing access to a part of myself that I deeply loved.

Over the last year, I've spent a lot of time intentionally training my brain again. I also fell in love with listening to podcasts about neuroscience. I think I'll write a separate blog on that because I found it fascinating. I've focused on improving my sleep, paying attention to my mental health, challenging my mind creatively, and being more mindful about what I put into my body. Along the way, I discovered something that quickly became one of my favorite daily supplements: Lion's Mane Mushrooms.

Out of everything I've experimented with, Lion's Mane is one of the tools I credit the most for helping me regain my memory and dream recall. I swear by it. Over time, I noticed my memory felt sharper. I found it easier to recall information. My thoughts felt more organized, and the mental fog that had become my normal started to lift. But the most surprising change was what happened with my dreams.

From the very first day I took Lion's Mane capsules, I was able to remember my dreams again. After experiencing that, I took off running with this supplement and never looked back.

Now, many mornings I wake up with vivid memories of where my mind traveled during the night. The connection I thought I had lost has returned.

Prayer carried me through some of the darkest moments of my life when I felt disconnected from reality and from myself. My memory improved. My dreams started coming back. I slowly began feeling more like myself again. Looking back, I don't think healing came from one thing. It came from faith, consistency, time, and giving my mind the support it needed while I found my way back.

Sometimes healing doesn't look like a dramatic breakthrough. It's remembering where you left your keys, recalling a conversation without struggling or waking up in the morning and remembering a dream you thought was lost forever. For me, those small victories have proved that my memory and cognitive function was improving.

I took Lion's Mane in capsule form, although you can also find it as a powder to mix into drinks or even as fresh mushrooms at local farmers markets.

I've seen people online make Lion's Mane “chicken” tenders that honestly look amazing, and hopefully I'll get the chance to try them someday.

For me, the capsules were simple, convenient, and easy to stay consistent with.

Everyone's experience is different, and this is simply my personal story. But if someone asked me which supplement had the biggest impact on my journey of rebuilding my memory and reconnecting with my dreams, Lion's Mane would still be #1 at the very top of my list.
